By3 October!

October is coming to an end and I am glad my October is filled with awesome memories!

Rekindled love for "Loti Huey" LOL. Visited "Images of Singapore" and "ITE" for my learning journeys. Shuffle-d with friends. Climbed Bukit Timah Hill. Had yummy bacon sandwich at the peak of the hill. Checked out Oriole Coffee Roasters. Had delicious quiche at Carpenters & Cook. Did my last run for 2012 - Real Run!

Food - Carpenter & Cook

It was a crowded cafe and we needed to wait, but the appearance of the pastries were irresistible and so we waited patiently. :$ Besides being a cafe, they also sell the vintage furniture!

I have always love the concept of "vintage" so I was quite captivated by all the furniture in the cafe. =)

Quoting from a friend - "Sitting on the world"

The cupboard, $1,200.

Mix matched furniture.

As usual, my friend's favourite - Mosaic! haha

Pastries we ordered. Banana cake ($5) - My friend like it, I am not a big fan of banana cake! I like the plate more. LOL.

The Cook's Amazing Quiche, yes! I love the quiche!!! ($7)

The "very buttery" scone ($ 4) was normal but the homemade jam and clotted cream made it yummy delicious!

The fruit frangipane tart ($6.20), too sour for my liking. ;$

A pot of tea ($4.50), cappuccino ($4.80)

Location of Carpenter & Cook: 19 Lorong Kilat (Upper Bukit Timah area)
Closed on Mondays!

Purposeful Traveller - Going back for the QUICHE!

Adore - BBQ, our way!

Food of Bands-ter loves food and we do BBQ, our style!

Buy simple food from the supermarket, an electric BBQ pit, set up the table, grab a few chairs and there we were, BBQ-ing at the comfort of a home, away with the "traditional" way of having BBQ! Hahaha.

A sumptuous spread.

What is BBQ without mash-mellows right!

Made Peach Light Cheese Cake and brought it there as a birthday cake cum dessert and we pair it with Villa M wine. I am not an alcohol drinker but Villa M is really nice! It goes well with the peach cheese cake!!

3 layers - crust, cheese then jelly, with a piece of peach for each slice.

Good wine Good wine (well, good enough for me!)

Adore - Embrace Nature!

Enough of lectures and tutorials, I decided to head out to the nature on a Friday (late) morning for a hike!

At Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

That same old steep slope. But.... I had an observation! O.o People were walking down the slope backwards! It puzzled me! I thought it was some new form of training or what! Hahahaha... See See... power right??

Magnificent tree I saw =)

We took the main road up which I GUESS should be the "RED" route, distance is about 1.2km, trail grade is easy. A simple and less tedious start for my friend who just recovered from surgery. =)

Another magnificent tree!

We reached the top easily! Then we rested for quite awhile. What my friend bought really made me laugh! She was so super prepared! Ice water with a slice of lemon (-_-), sweets (in case she feels faint), insect repellent and biscuits! Hahahahaha!

She even did Bacon & Cheese sandwich for us. So sweet of her!

After resting, eating and chit chatting, we decided to take a different route down! Took the GREEN route that is about 1.9km and trail grade is moderate to difficult! This route leads us into the nature and we spotted more interesting sightings!

Squirrel! But my camera quality not so good la!

Water catchment area?!

Tunnel/Cave. Woo.

Fallen Log.

Then we faced a few steep slopes but my friend managed to conquer them all!

When we were back to the main road, it was that steep slope again! After walking for awhile, I decided to walk backwards as well! It seemed to be easier and less straining on the kneecap when I walked backwards! Now I know why!

Enjoyed my day in the nature!

Headed to Upper Bukit Timah for Wanton Mee.

Some thoughts as I trekked through the nature reserve - It is an awesome place to bring children along, where they literally see and feel nature, I believe they can learn a lot here especially about loving Mother Nature!

Cafes - Retrolicious.

Recently I have been to two cafes that are.....

Both have displays of those old school days, local food with western fares as well. =)

I went to Old School Delight located at 215M Upper Thomson Road, they sell food like Mee Siam, Laksa, etc etc... We went there after dinner so we only had a banana cake and a cup of traditional coffee.

Saw someone having western food but the appearance of it was so-so. =P

I am more excited with the display than food! haha

And the childhood games we used to play!

All these were games we used to play. It was nice to have them on each table, customers could just play with it.

They sell Loti Huey (biscuits with colorful sugar on it) for $1, this leads me to the next cafe I went....

STEAM SIA!

It is a newly opened cafe in August, located at 5 Hindoo Road (10 minutes walk from Farrer Park Station). I guess it was fairly new which explained why we were the only customers there! It reminded me of the cafe I went in Penang because it was so quiet and not crowded at all! =D

Displays they have.

We sat there for a few hours, eating dinner, chit chatting, taking photos! whee! And their service staffs were very friendly! LOL!

Things for sale.

There is a Kacang Puteh corner which we could just help ourselves to the Kacang and biscuits FOR FREE! So nice of them, I thought it was quite a thoughtful gesture! The corner also displayed some games we used to play when we were young.

Loti Huey! Have it for free!

We ordered 2 main courses to share - Curry Chicken with bread and Nasi Goreng! Not bad. We all love the warm bread! hahaha.

Order 1 main course and like their facebook page for a FREE WAFFLE ICE CREAM! WOW. And so we got 2 waffles ice cream for free. hahaha.

I prefer steam sia than old school delight. =)
